An inspiring message today and a story which began in the 1930s.
"I know Middleton camp was bought by Sunderland council in the 1930s to get kids out of the town and fill some young lungs with fresh air for a week! My dad, who died recently aged 90, was sent as a boy when it first opened and loved every second of his visit. He also was "taken" to chapel on Sunday morning, I think it was standard practice then and treated as the norm. I am sure over all those years and the thousands and thousands of kids who visited your wonderful chapel and village you have changed the lives and thinking of so many young kids. I know both myself and my dad are just two of them.
I think people don't realise how much they affect someone's life as simple passing visitors. Even after all those years I still remember the ladies handing out the hymn books, the wonderful building, the strange pulpit, the wonderful painted ceiling and the lady taking the service and even the content of her sermon (she talked about the salmon swimming up stream). I still remember them jumping up stream at the bridge in the village.
You have touched people's lives in so many ways over the years and that is something beyond price - without question the best £5 10s my parents ever spent. You are all blessed to live in such a magical place and to have touched so many lives for the better.
Thank you again.
